A few years back Microsoft launched into a new innovative area of PC computing when it introduced the Microsoft Surface. It was basically a table with an ultra-cool touch screen built in. People could then be sitting around a table interacting with this computer making the whole experience enjoyable and intuitive. Now Microsoft has released the Microsoft Surface 2 taking the concept to a whole new level!
There is one difference that is noticeable with off the bat. The first Microsoft Surface was quite a bit thicker, almost a whole box underneath the table. This was because they needed cameras to detect touch. The new Microsoft Surface 2 is only 4 inches thin with a dual-core Windows 7 computer inside. They’re able to pull it off because of Pixel Sense, a new technology created by Microsoft. Basically there are infrared sensors all throughout the screen so each pixel is actually acts as a camera. This allows the screen to actually “see” objects as they touch it.
This technology opens up opportunities to interact in whole new ways. It can accomplish such tasks as recognizing fliers to interacting with fingers and touching.
The slim form-factor actually allows for using it upright as well letting businesses use it as a kiosk of sorts. You can hang it on a wall? Very cool.
The glass can take quite a beating too. It has the biggest piece of gorilla glass ever. This makes it so you can actually drop a glass bottle from 18 inches shattering the bottle without damaging the table.
With the innovation, elegance, slimness, and ruggedness, the Microsoft Surface 2 should make anyone’s “awesome” list!
